Power Transformers

Induction Furnace has a coil constructed from heavy copper tubing, designed and tuned to the inverter circuit which applies medium frequency voltage (generally 500 Hz or 1000 Hz). The magnetic field generated by the coil induces eddy currents in the charge material, producing heat efficiently. Medium frequency enhances the rate of heat generation.

The inverter circuit requires DC voltage, which is obtained by converting available three-phase AC voltage. Transformers used for converting this AC voltage to the required level for the converter circuit are known as Furnace Transformers or Rectifier/Converter Duty Transformers.

These transformers are specially designed to withstand high electrical, thermal, and mechanical stresses during operation. In electric arc furnaces, the secondary terminals are connected to electrodes and are subjected to frequent short circuits during the melting process. Therefore, furnace transformers are engineered to handle high current loads and repeated short circuit conditions.
